European Policy Development - EASI activities
All three development partnerships were involved in EU policy development, including and participating in The European Policy Forum 2007: Minimum standards and beyond - the contribution of Equal to a dignified standard of living for asylum seekers in Europe in Malmo, Sweden, May 22-24 2007.
The Forum was organised by the Swedish ESF-Council in cooperation with the managing authorities of the European Social Fund in Italy, Germany, Greece, Finland, Poland and Portugal. The event was supported by the European Commission and participants to the forum:
- Presented and discussed successful approaches to integrate asylum seekers in different national contexts within the EU.
- Illustrated the benefits of going beyond the minimum standards outlined in the Reception Directive.
- Made the case for a more comprehensive integration of asylum seekers to politicians and decision makers.
- Looked at future opportunities to help the integration of asylum seekers, European Funds such as the European Social Funds, anti-discrimination and social inclusion processes, etc.

Through regular monitoring of developments in asylum and refugee policy in the EU institutions ECRE undertakes advocacy initiatives to influence the direction of the EU policy agenda. ECRE aims to ensure Europe plays a more positive role in improving the protection and integration of asylum seekers and refugees in Europe and beyond.
